Rapper Troy Ave is recovering after being shot while sitting in his car in New York

His lawyer Scott Lemon says the rapper, whose real name is Roland Collins, was on his way to visit his family on Sunday evening when he was shot twice while waiting at a road junction.

Police say the 31-year-old was in a red Maserati when a man fired several rounds into the car.

One shot hit the rapper in the arm while another grazed his head.

50 Cent has been to visit him in hospital.

Doctors say Troy Ave is "in a fair condition". No arrests have been made in the case so far.

Troy Ave is still on bail over a shooting that left one person dead and four injured at a T.I. gig in New York in May.

Police say the rapper was caught on CCTV firing a gun into the packed crowd.
